Let a supplier update your product content (and why it is off)

All five Product fields (advanced) checkboxes are off by default, so Everstock never touches the titles, descriptions, vendors, product types or tags on products you already have until you deliberately turn one on. When you do turn one on, the supplier feed becomes the authority for that field, so save the change and run a preview before you let a real sync use it.

Where the setting lives

Open Connections, choose the connection, and scroll to Sync scope & schedule. Inside it is a nested section called Product fields (advanced), headed by a warning banner: "These fields overwrite your product data". The banner reads "These overwrite fields on products you may have edited by hand, and tags become fully supplier-authoritative. Run a Preview first to see exactly what would change."

Below the banner are the five checkboxes, all off until you check them: Sync title, Sync description, Sync vendor, Sync product type, Sync tags. Changes here save through the Shopify admin save bar at the top of the page, not an in-page button.

What "overwrite" means

On every run, a matched product whose supplier value differs from the Shopify value is rewritten to the supplier value. If you or a colleague edited a title by hand, the next sync puts the supplier's title back. There is no merge and no "only fill blanks" mode.

A blank or missing supplier value is never written. Everstock treats an empty or whitespace-only feed value as "no value" and skips it, so a thin feed cannot wipe a field you already have.

Only mapped fields can change. If your Field mapping has no row for Vendor, checking Sync vendor changes nothing. The relevant mapping targets are Title, Description (HTML), Vendor, Product type, and Tags (comma-separated). Description is written as HTML exactly as the supplier supplies it.

Tags deserve their own warning. Shopify replaces a product's whole tag set in one write, so whenever tags change, the feed's list becomes the complete list. Tags you added by hand, or that another app added, are gone. A feed that sends no tags at all is treated as no value and leaves your tags alone, but the moment it sends any tags, the feed wins outright.

To protect one product without turning the field off for every product, add its supplier SKU or barcode to the connection's Ignore list. An ignored record is dropped before Everstock compares anything, so nothing on that product is written.

These toggles govern products that already exist in your store. Products made by Create missing products always take the feed's description, vendor, product type and tags at creation, and are always created as drafts.

What it looks like in a run

In the run detail's Per-record audit, a record whose only changes were descriptive shows Product fields changed in the Change column and Product update in the Action column. If quantity or price also changed, the Change column names that instead, and the product field changes still appear alongside.

Either way, the detail is in the Fields changed column, one line per field, written as title: old value → new value. The field names there are the internal ones: title, description, vendor, productType, tags. The run's CSV carries the same detail in its changes column.

One caveat for products with several variants: title, description, vendor, product type and tags belong to the product, not the variant. If two variants of one product ask for different values for the same field, the first one is written and the other record carries a note in the Message column saying another variant's values were applied. A field only one variant asked to change is still written.

Preview before you enable

Check the boxes, save, then run Preview changes from the connection. The modal is titled "Preview: proposed changes" and carries the banner "Nothing has been written to Shopify". Read the Fields changed column row by row, or use Download CSV for the full list. Rows a real run would have written carry the status Planned; records Everstock could not match, or found in your store but not in the feed, carry Review instead. Nothing in either group was sent to Shopify.

If the proposed rewrites are not what you want, uncheck the boxes and save again. Nothing was written.

Turning a checkbox off stops future overwrites, but it does not restore anything already overwritten. The run audit records the previous value for each change (long values are shortened), so use it as your record when you restore something by hand.
