Set price rules for a supplier
A supplier's price is often not the price you want to sell at. It may be in another currency, or it may be your cost. Price rules turn the supplier's price into your price before Everstock writes it. They are off by default, so a new connection uses the supplier's price exactly as the feed reports it.
Where to find price rules
Price rules only matter when Everstock writes prices, so the section only appears once price sync is on:
- Open Connections and choose the connection.
- In What syncs, turn on On existing products for Price.
- Click Save in the Shopify admin save bar.
A Price rules section now appears below What syncs. Tick Turn on price rules to show the settings. See Sync prices as well as stock first if you have not checked what your supplier's price field holds.
The four settings
Every setting is optional. Leave a field blank to skip that step.
Conversion rate (optional) is how many units of your store's currency equal one unit of the supplier's currency. For example, if your store sells in USD and the supplier prices in EUR, and 1 EUR is worth 1.0850 USD, enter 1.0850. Everstock uses the fixed rate you enter. It does not look up live exchange rates, so update the rate yourself when you want to.
Conversion only happens when the supplier's currency is different from your store's. If they are the same, the rate is ignored. For this to work, Everstock has to know the supplier's currency. A WooCommerce store reports its own currency. For a REST feed or a spreadsheet, map the supplier's Currency field. If the feed says nothing about currency, Everstock treats its prices as already in your store's currency and does not convert them.
Markup percentage (optional) adds a percentage to the price after conversion. Enter 20 to add 20%. A negative number, like -10, takes 10% off instead.
Fixed markup (optional) adds an amount after the percentage. It is in your store's currency. Enter 2.00 to add 2.00 to every price.
Round the final price is applied last. It has five options:
- None: no rounding.
- Nearest whole number: 12.34 becomes 12.00, and 12.50 becomes 13.00.
- Ends in .99: 12.34 becomes 12.99.
- Ends in .95: 12.34 becomes 12.95.
- Ends in .00: 12.34 becomes 13.00.
The three "Ends in" options only ever round up, never down, so a rounded price is never below the price your rules worked out. A currency with no decimals, like JPY, is not changed by rounding.
The order the rules run in
Everstock always applies the rules in the same order:
- Convert the currency.
- Add the percentage markup.
- Add the fixed markup.
- Round.
A price can never go below zero, even with a large negative markup.
Check the example line
Under the settings, a live example shows what your rules do. It reads like "A supplier price of €10.00 becomes $13.99." It uses a sample price of 10.00 EUR and updates as you type, so you can try different numbers before you save. It runs the same calculation a sync does.
If a number is not valid, the field says so when you save. For example: "Enter a conversion rate greater than 0, e.g. 1.0850."
What the rules change
The rules change every price this connection writes. That includes prices on products you already have and prices on new products Everstock creates. If you sync Compare-at price, the same rules apply to it too, so a sale price and its "was" price stay in step.
The rules are applied before the preview, before the safety checks and before the audit. So the Price column on a preview or a run shows the final price, the one that will be written or was written. On a run page, the supplier's own price is shown under it, before any rules, for example "Supplier price: 10.00 EUR". The run's CSV download has it too, in the supplier_price and supplier_currency columns. A price change that looks like a mistake, such as a price that jumps about ten times higher, is still held for your review. See Held changes and approval.
Turn price rules off
Untick Turn on price rules and save. The next sync writes the supplier's price as reported. Your rate, markups and rounding are kept, so you can turn the rules back on later without typing them again.
Changing a rule does not change prices right away. The new prices are written on the next real sync. Run Preview changes first to see every price that would move.
